Support Our Work

Help keep National Housing Preservation Database public and up-to-date for affordable housing stakeholders, including for advocates, housing providers, researchers, and other mission-driven organizations. Made possible by seed grants from the MacArthur Foundation, Fannie Mae, and HAI Group, the NHPD depends on contributions from users like you and sponsorships from organizational partners to help fund this important resource.

The National Housing Preservation Database (NHPD) has helped over 5,000 people access the information they need to understand the stock of publicly supported housing in their community, and to preserve affordable housing options for low-income households. The Database is the only source for a de-duplicated inventory of federally subsidized housing properties in the US and integrates information from ten separate federal housing programs and other US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administrative data.

The NHPD has been used to:

  • Estimate amount of affordable housing in specific areas
  • Determine the number of properties at risk of losing one or more subsidies
  • Develop strategies on how to preserve affordable housing
  • Advocate for the preservation of at-risk properties
  • Identify affordable housing options for Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) recipients
  • Select properties for acquisition and prospective development sites
  • Identify which regulations apply to a property by studying the subsidies awarded to housing provider
“[The NHPD] is an accurate and convenient data source for a broad range of federal subsidy programs, which can be supplemented by outreach to state and local agencies.” ~ user from Enterprise Community Partners
